Andrew joined Independent Member for Mayo, Rebekha Sharkie, to discuss the Federal Government’s response to the Commonwealth Ombudsman’s report on the Aged Care Integrated Assessment Tool (IAT).

“It’s hard to believe the Labor Government is still resisting calls to scrap their cruel new aged care algorithm and retain effective human oversight over care decisions. Aged care experts, families and recipients, the crossbench, the Federal Opposition, and now the Commonwealth Ombudsman have all told the Government it stinks, but they still have their heads in the sand.

“The Ombudsman’s judgement that the IAT is neither fair nor consistent echoes the Royal Commission finding that robodebt was ‘a crude and cruel mechanism, neither fair nor legal’. Sadly, it’s looking increasingly like the IAT is just another automation designed to cut costs at the expense of desperately-needed support.”
