Today the Government introduced their long-awaited gambling “reforms”. What it turned out to be was useless legislation which will do almost nothing to prevent gambling advertising and protect vulnerable Australians and children from gambling harm.
I moved a motion in the House of Representatives calling for the Prime Minister to personally explain to Australians why protecting gambling companies, media companies and the major sporting codes is more important to him and his government than protecting the interests, and lives, of Australians. The Government shamefully gagged debate on this, and on a proposal to refer the bill to Committee moved by the Member for Curtin.
It’s clear they have no shame, and will stop at nothing to run their protection racket for the gambling and media companies, as well as the AFL and NRL, at the expense of the public interest. The full speech on the motion and the gambling reforms can be found here: https://youtu.be/hQ1GiC3HX0w
