Just when we thought the Tasmanian Government couldn’t stoop any lower, today they moved to stop MPs from being required to give evidence to the Integrity Commission under oath. In all my days I haven’t seen a government, at state or federal level, as dodgy as this one.
Whether it’s taking legal action against the Integrity Commission to block the release of Commission reports and obfuscating about all the taxpayer-funded costs of doing so, or now attempting to kneecap the Integrity Commission, at every step the Government has shown itself to be, at best, deeply untrustworthy and breathtakingly incompetent.
In my opinion this Tasmanian Government is corrupt, if not in a strict legal sense, then definitely as far as the way in which they’ve corrupted all standards of good governance and also utterly abandoned the public interest.
And they’re only getting away with it because the alternative government is equally useless. Tasmanians deserve so much better.
