Independent Member for Clark, Andrew Wilkie, commented on the planned price increase for many Aurora customers when Tariff 41 for hot water and heating is increased, from 1 July, to match the higher Tariff 31 rate.
“Although Aurora claims that some customers will benefit from the off-peak tariff instead of the increased Tariff 41 rate, many others would be stuck with higher bills because they don’t have off-peak appliances or flexible energy requirements.
“The pricing structure is convoluted, and the Tasmanian Government is burying this in the fine print of Aurora’s communications because it suits them to be confusing.
“But the simple fact is that many Aurora customers are currently on Tariff 41 and will continue to be on that tariff for a long time to come, and many are set to be slugged with higher power prices. Quite frankly, it is unconscionable that this is planned when we are in the midst of a cost-of-living crisis.”
