‘The only reason some people don’t have affordable and reliable access to the internet is because the government has decided it’s not a priority.
‘Much of Tasmania is rural and remote. We have many small settlements across the island and people die because they don’t have reliable access to the NBN or at least the phone system.
‘To include universal service obligation of NBN co is sensible and entirely supportable. Who could argue that there shouldn’t be a legal obligation to provide affordable access no matter where you live in the country?
‘This may have been a genuine challenging a decade ago, but this is 2024 and the technology exists. This is an easy win that warrants more than a simple kicking the can down the road response of ‘working on it’.’
