“The Federal Government’s covering up today for the Minister for Communications, Michelle Rowland, was shameful behaviour,” Independent Member for Clark, Andrew Wilkie said.
“In my opinion, the Minister blatantly mislead the community yesterday when she claimed that truth in political advertising was a matter for the Australian Electoral Commission, even though such responsibility is clearly beyond the remit of the AEC. But when I gave the Minister the opportunity in Question Time today to correct the record she failed to respond, while anyone and everyone in the Government ran a protection racket for her.
“So here we are again with ministers not held to account. Politicians not included in the draft Misinformation and Disinformation Bill. And no truth in political advertising reform. It’s no wonder pollies are held in contempt by many Australians.”
