Independent Member for Clark, Andrew Wilkie, met with the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commissioner, Ms Janet Anderson, to discuss the widespread concern among residents and their families with Southern Cross Care Tasmania. Southern Cross is Tasmania’s largest residential aged care provider with nine facilities operating around the State and home to almost a thousand residents.
The meeting with the Commissioner followed a parliamentary speech by Mr Wilkie in which he laid out a series of allegations about Southern Cross’ Tasmanian facilities.
“While the substantive content of my meeting with the Aged Care Commissioner is confidential, I can say that the Commissioner gave me a very good hearing,” Mr Wilkie said.
“The Commission is obviously well aware of the community’s concerns with Southern Cross Care Tasmania and is taking the matter very seriously. I left the meeting feeling confident that change is coming to Southern Cross Care Tasmania.”
