Today (24 April 2023) we commemorate the 108-year anniversary of the Armenian Genocide and remember the lives lost during the tragic event. The Government of the Ottoman Empire taking the lives of 1.5 million Armenians has had a profound impact that is still being felt to this very day.

Shamefully, the Australian Government has not officially recognised this abhorrent violation of human rights as genocide. The Armenian community has suffered 108 years of suffering and it is vital to officially acknowledge these crimes to help the community heal. I stand in solidarity with Armenians worldwide and support calls for official Federal Government recognition of the Armenian Genocide.
