It’s shameful that the Federal Government refused to commit to lifting the Medicare GP rebate when I put the question to the Minister for Health, Mark Butler, in Question Time.
Countless Australians are missing out on seeing a GP as bulk-billing continues to fall and gap payments go through the roof. Yes the Government is looking to reform the GP sector, but the ideas the Government is putting forward avoid the central problem which is that the miserable GP rebate makes bulk-billing financially unsustainable for most practices.
