Independent Member for Clark, Andrew Wilkie, has joined cyclists, Bicycle Network spokesperson Alison Hetherington and the Hobart Lord Mayor Anna Reynolds to welcome the completion of the Huon Road uphill bicycle passing project, which will make the trip up the mountain safer for all road users.

“Bike riders can’t get enough of kunanyi/Mount Wellington,” Mr Wilkie said. “But it’s been a pretty perilous trip up until now and this project will make the journey safer for everyone.

“It’s good to see investment in infrastructure for alternative modes of transport such as cycling, which has soared in popularity. I encourage the State Government to take notice and ditch its obsession with cars which has left Hobart choking on traffic and family homes facing demolition.”

This project was funded through $850,000 in federal funding Mr Wilkie secured for the Hobart City Council.
