The October poker machine figures have been released and they show another big increase in losses compared with the same month last year. Indeed the $16,961,711 is up about $2m on 2019 and continues the pattern of the previous three months.

The bottom line is that Tasmanians are losing enormous sums of money since the lockdown was lifted and much of that money lost has come from the people least able to afford it.

That the Tasmanian Government continues to allow this goes to show that it’s addicted to the rivers of gold in poker machine taxes and cares little for the thousands of gambling addicts in the community. How any politician, let alone a government, can so blatantly disregard the suffering and loss of lives beggars belief. They must have a dark heart.
