The dreadful suffering of a young bull at the Royal Hobart Show is further compelling evidence that rodeos should be banned in Tasmania.
This episode also proves again that animals should not be used for entertainment, that the State Government can’t be trusted to safeguard animal welfare and, as we saw with the slaughter of racehorses last week, self-regulation does not work.
Animal cruelty is widespread in Australia, including in horse racing, the greyhound industry, industrial production of food and fibre, and puppy and kitten factories. It’s high time the Federal Government established a national Independent Office of Animal Welfare to prevent the abuse of animals in this country.
