Postal vote High Court challenge gets go ahead

At today’s hearing it was resolved that the High Court will hear on 5 and 6 September our application to stop the marriage equality postal vote. Moreover the Government has committed in Court that no postal vote papers will be distributed to anyone anywhere before 12 September.

This is wonderful news for the great many people who oppose the postal vote. We will have our day in court and it will be a full bench of the High Court no less.

I remain firm in my belief that the Government is exceeding its powers by attempting to conduct a postal vote, doing so without authority to spend the funds, and misusing the Australian Bureau of Statistics.

Mr Wilkie is an applicant in the case along with PFLAG spokesperson Shelley Argent and lesbian mum Felicity Marlowe.
