The Independent Member for Denison, Andrew Wilkie, has welcomed confirmation by the Prime Minister that the $16m federal grant promised to build a visitor centre at Cadbury’s chocolate factory at Claremont “will be forthcoming’’.
In response to a question from Mr Wilkie in Question Time today, the Prime Minister made the commitment but said the Federal Government was still studying Cadbury’s business case which it had only received in December.
“The community had grown understandably anxious as the money was promised way back in 2013,’’ Mr Wilkie said.
“It’s pleasing the Prime Minister has confirmed this much needed economic boost that will create hundreds of jobs and an exciting addition to Hobart’s tourist scene. The Government has only had the business case for several weeks but the whole affair has dragged on too long already. The pressure is now on the Federal Government to quickly lock in the grant and transfer the funds.’’
