The Prime Minister’s refusal to commit to stop the decline in Department of Human Services ICT jobs in Hobart, in response to my question in Parliament today, is disappointing.
It’s especially disappointing because the Government made a commitment in 2014 that they would keep these jobs in Hobart. But it appears this tricky government have broken their promise and Tasmanians have every right to feel cheated.
When I asked him directly today, the Prime Minister ducked and weaved and wanted to talk about anything other than these Hobart-based ICT jobs. Nor would he be drawn on federal public service job numbers in Hobart more broadly.
I will continue to take the fight for Tasmania to Canberra. But the efforts of federal MPs are being undermined when we have a Liberal Premier who won’t do his job, pick up the phone and keep the Liberal Prime Minister to his word.
